Long ride Sat 12/22 from Berlin Park & Ride

Post by jraguin »

Steady endurance meaning slow going uphill. Probably 3:25 without the stop. Putting this out there early in case others want to plan ahead. Weather is looking good for a long ride on Saturday. Looks like 45+ degrees, no rain, but probably wet roads in spots.

Clip in 9 AM start (be READY TO GO, that means you Westberry) although could be flexible based on what people want. Might do the same route to NH that we did a few weekends ago. Will start in Acton (my house) or Stow (depending on if Jeremy joins us) or maybe even retro Stow Plaza start. Moved to the Berlin Park and Ride on Route 62 at the 495 / Route 62 intersection to make it easier for more people since I live more north than most MRC members.

Current planned route attached:
https://www.strava.com/routes/16467310
Coffee / food stop in Groton (Blackbird Cafe) on the way back (mile 39) so add 30 minutes to ride time. Call it 4 hours of fun with the guys.

Note that if that is too long for folks, I can cut it down by about 8 miles with one cut off which would bring riding time to 3 hours (3:30 with stop). We just wouldn't go to NH and would go west on Route 113 in Dunstable to Pepperell to continue the route.

Hopeful I can join, but not sure. A Fintanesque 60/40. I'll post up when I know for sure.

Weather is looking somewhat iffy now? New England... anyhow, I would prefer to do the longer route, but if the shorter route is decided on, I will want to ride to the start.

Weather should be fine. Current hourly forecast says 53 degrees dropping to 47 degrees by the end of the ride. Cloudy, some chance of a brief shower during the ride. I will post up if there are any changes by 8 PM Friday night, but assume the ride is set.

I sense an interest in the shorter ride (52-53 miles) so assume that is the call. That will be 3 hours which is plenty for most people's winter fitness. If we are riding and everyone wants to change to the 60-61 mile ride, we can do that.

I think I'm in!
I'll be riding to/from Shrewsbury if anyone wants to meet up along the way to/from the PnR.

Coffee/snack stop at 32 miles.

Given some of the iffiness and Jeremy's vote, it is definitely the shorter course. So load that shorter course I called the "Dunstable ride from Berlin PNR".

Here is what I said earlier: "I will post up if there are any changes by 8 PM Friday night, but assume the ride is set."
And I also posted: "...it is definitely the shorter course. So load that shorter course I called the "Dunstable ride from Berlin PNR".

Seems like we're going with the shorter route, but my vote's for the longer route minus the mid-ride stop.
I'm game for whatever though

I mean, I read everything, it just that the short route decision seemed to be based off of only Jeremy's vote, due to his time constraint. We could replace midride stop w/riding. But, I get it if peps need their coffee

I have to admit, it isn't Jeremy. I want the coffee. So given that it is "my ride", my rules. Coffee it is! (Just kidding, if everyone is against this, I am OK with it). With that said, I can give Patrick a loop for 30 minutes while we are having our macchiatos.

Who doesn't enjoy a nice mid-ride ride followed by more riding? It's all the rage. See you at 8:45a or so.
