George Street Bike Challenge for Major Taylor - July 22
George Street Bike Challenge for Major Taylor
Sunday, July 22, 2018
Worcester, Mass.
See how fast you can pedal up George Street, a two-block quadbuster that was a training ground for 1899 world cycling champion Major Taylor.
It's one rider at a time against the clock in this uphill time trial presented by Barney's Bicycle and the Seven Hills Wheelmen.
The distance is 500 feet and the average grade is 18 percent (but it's closer to 24 percent at one point).
Entry fee is $20 and includes a Garden Fresh breakfast coupon. Proceeds benefit the Major Taylor Association.
All the details on the race, the raffle (win a bike!), the registration -- and a short video:

I've done it the past few years, it's a great event with a cool vibe.

If you were going to do it that way you would have to sign everyone up in a block so we all race around the same time. You dont get the start list until the morning of.

Ohhhh... I guess we just go do it and then drink at Armsby when we're done.

This has been my usual approach. Although the Armsby Abby can get a bit crowded.

Just a heads up if anyone is planning to bring their kids to spectate.
The abbey won't allow them in if you plan to go there after the event.

I haven't yet decided if I am doing it. I might just ride there with a few friends and go from there. Just throw my skin suit in my bag or something. That late start puts it a bit too close to when I have to go to work.

Anybody still planning on doing this, and the ride out there and back? Any suggested meeting time/place for the ride? LalaJava? 110? No strong preference here, although I will likely be riding from Southborough to whatever meeting place we pick.

There is some chance I might do it. Keep this updated as I might be a morning of decision.
