WNR 5:30pm 5/2 - 110Grill Pre-meeting- Harvard Road Race Simulation and (unofficial) Team Tactics 201 Class
I've had this idea for a while and it seems like the appropriate time to do it. I'd like to do a 2 lap race simulation of the Harvard race course. Here's what I'm suggesting:
Plan A - Depending on how many people are in, hopefully we can form 2-3 teams of 4-5 people each. We meet at 110 Grill as usual, choose captains, who pick their teams (like pick-up basketball), and take 5 minutes for the teams to separate and discuss tactics. From there we roll to Harvard in a steady no-drop paceline for a warm up. We do 2 laps of the race course in full (yet safe) race mode (expect 50-60mins of suffering). The winner is the TEAM with the first rider across the line, no matter who it is. We wait for everyone to regroup in Harvard center and we head back to 110 Grill, with the losing teams buying a free beverage for the winning team. Note there will be no individual rewarded, only the team as a whole.
Plan B - If we have too many people (which is a good thing) we can do the "Smudger Pursuit" training ride which we've been talking about for years. Again, split into probably 3 teams in terms of overall speed (yes you may have to swallow your pride). Let's call these teams Cat 4, 3, 2 for lack of better terms. Cat 4's start as a team in TTT mode, 2 minutes later (or whatever we determine is fair) Cat 3s go, then Cat 2s. The idea is to catch the group in front of you and eventually get to the line first. Once you catch the group in front, you can work together to get the next group. If and when its all together we can sprint it out for the W.
In either case we'll sprint for a closer line than the race so we don't fly into the intersection.(Perhaps the diagonal intersection of Fairbanks and Oak Hill Road)
Needless to say safety has to be #1 on everyone's mind including traffic.

I think we're supposed to be having a pre-meeting ride from the BST.

Wow this sounds like a lot of fun! I'll try to reschedule a meeting so I can make it

Shit you're right. Maybe we can switch to 110 Grill for the meeting.KTeves wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 4:47 pm I think we're supposed to be having a pre-meeting ride from the BST.

In. If forced to chose, I'd go with the Smudger Pursuit, but either is cool. I like the idea of mixing up the WNR routine.

In. We should make this happen / 110 Grill

I'm in. From either location.

Thought: 5,4,3,2,1 points for top 5, team with highest total points wins. Avoids the 2 man break with everyone else blocking each other. And puts something on the field sprint.

Sure. I'm in.
I like Pare's idea with a few points further down the placings. Maybe with more weight on the win. Otherwise Tom and Rob will be in a 3 man break up the road and everyone else will be back in the group complaining about their brakes rubbing.
eg. 10 for the win then 7, 5, 3,2,1 for 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc.

I meant 2 man break but I guess it could be a 3 man break too.

Sounds great! I like the idea of a little friendly competition vs just the regular ride. I should be able to make it. This will be interesting on many levels...

I'll be there but I'll have to meet up along the way so somebody please let me know what team I end up on.
