Ok, does anyone know what the most "indestructible" road tire that's available? This is the second pair of tires this year wear I got a nice little cut in my tire after a little under 1000 miles. Also does anyone have some advice on what I may be doing wrong to get these cuts? Was thinking of just saying "f" it and going with conti- gator skins. Reviews seem to put them as almost invincable, and with crappy New England roads that sounds like it might be an option. Anyone have experience with Conti- Gator skins?

You might look at Specialized Armadillos, available in a variety of sizes/treads/widths.

I would suggest Conti-Grand Prixs - especially the 25mm if you are willing to go slightly wider (I used them at the GrandFundo with a lot of dirt, gravel, marginal roads, etc). If not, I am sure the 23mm work well too.

The Conti's (Grand Prix and Gatorskins) have a bit better ride quality than the Armadillo's, but nothing will outlast and Armadillo.

If you are looking for a "speedier" tire that I've found to be bulletproof, the Vittoria Rubino pro 23mm is a great tire. I rode (and raced) Battenkill 2 weeks in a row after training all winter on them, no issues. Of course as soon as I switched to my Michelin Race tires I started flatting regularly...

I have had no issues with Conti 4000s. At 175 lbs, I've never had a problem tearing them, even at Grand Fundo and D2R2 (yes, I'm the dumb guy that rides 23 road tires on these things).

While I recommended the Armadillo's as "indestructible", I echo Todd's rec of the Conti 4000s: I rode Battenkill on mine with no issues.

I have ridden 85,000 miles on Vittoria Rubino Pro- its all I buy (sometimes in weird colors!)
