The Vermont 50 - September 27th, 2009

Post by taudep »

I figure what a better way to kick off the new race report forum than to share my experiences about my first ever Vermont 50. And coincidentally, my first ever race report.

Checked this out earlier today on doublehop. Great read and loved the self-portrait. Well done on seeing it through. Gloucester will be a breeze after that.

@Lodrina -- That's a good story, I'll stick with that...yeah, tapering for Gloucester.
@Rob -- I'm glad I still have a full suspension. Even the singlespeeders there had a front fork.

BTW, you all, registration is May 25th, 2010 at 7 pm for the 2010 Vermont 50. (It's a Tuesday this year so you don't have to worry about registering during your family Memorial weekend vacation.)

I expect to see you there...unless it's raining, in which case, I may see you there, but I won't be dragging my bike around.

Remember: May 25th, 2007, 7:00 PM -- add it to your calendar. It fills up fast.

And, I'll add, this if it isn't muddy, there's a lot of beautiful riding and some fantastic singletrack.

Taud,
Congrats on your indoctrination into the VT50 alumni organization.
It's been 13 years (I think) since my first and 7 years since my last 50.
I can testify that there are some truly amazing sections on that route (if you aren't dragging a bike).

Your finishing time under those conditions is actually impressive. I know guys who take longer than that when it's dry.

Sucks to hear about your bike carnage. I've been there too but probably never that bad in one single race.
During one 50 I lost a pair of brand new carbon $160 Oakley M-frames and toasted a wheel when I tried to ride over a little wooden bridge where everyone else was just going through the stream. The bridge didn't hold me. I went right through a broken section and flipped over the bars, off the bridge and into the stream. That slowed me down for a while.

All in all, it's an epic ride even when things go well. Reading your report makes me want to go back and try it again.
We'll see.
