I need to reduce the number of wheels hanging in my garage. I have an old set of A-Class ALX290 wheels that I used last year for winter wheels. These are by far the cheapest crappiest wheels that I have ever owned. They came on a women's specific Specialized road bike that I bought for my wife about 7 years ago on eBay. I promptly removed them and put them replaced with slightly less crappy Rolf wheels that I had from my first road bike, a LeMond. Anyway, after last winter, the rear wheel has a gritty feel in the bearings so I just disassembled to explore. Turns out, these A-class wheels don't have sealed bearings...but individual ball bearings. I just cleaned them and repacked in grease but I can't claim that I improved the grittiness much.
If you're less particular than I am and/or willing to spend a little on them, they could make for a good set of winter wheels. If you're willing to drive to Marlboro to get them, they're yours for free. PM me, or email to onegeardoug AT google mail.
